Freddy Danneel

Freddy Danneel, also known by his artist name "d'Anneel", was born in Ostend on 12 December 1929 and died in Roeselare on 10 September 2008. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels under J. Ransy, Fernand Deboinnares and Charles Verhasselt, the painter and sculptor devoted most of his work to the nude and to religious themes, bridging the corporeal and the spiritual.

He taught at the École d'Arts Plastiques et Visuels in Uccle, where his students included Peter Permeke, a descendant of Constant Permeke. After moving to Nieuwkapelle (Diksmuide) in the Westhoek in 1988, he also turned to landscape watercolours.

His work "La Source" is on display in Ostend.
