Florient De Bramignies

Florient De Bramignies was Paul Delvaux's last living pupil. A Post-Symbolist and virtuoso of glazing, he transposes the live models who sit for him into the pomp of 18th-century dress, as in "Les Vestales du Styx", which expresses the unsuspected hell of seduction: these female asps join forces to destroy humanity.

In his self-portrait he pays tribute to 17th-century Dutch painting, deliberately adopting Rembrandt's technique. Heir to Delvaux's teaching, he has not broken with Surrealism but transcends it in his Post-Symbolist style, as in "The Enchanted Tree", where he depicts his gallery owner above the myth of Apollo.

The Dante Rossetti Gallery awarded him the title of Painter in Residence for "Les Vestales du Styx" and his "Self-Portrait". He has won numerous awards abroad, including a Medal of Merit.
