Florient De Bramignies – Les Vestales du Styx
Florient De Bramignies was Paul Delvaux‘s last living pupil. A post-symbolist using glazes, this virtuoso of the brush transposes the living models who pose for him, including ‘Les Vestales du Styx’, by painting them behind the pomp and circumstance of 18th-century dress.
‘Les Vestales du Styx’ expresses the unsuspected hell of seduction. These female aspics combine forces to destroy humanity.
In his self-portrait, Florient De Bramignies has painted himself as a tribute to 17th-century Dutch painting, deliberately choosing to use Rembrandt’s technique.
Heir to the teachings of Paul Delvaux, Florient De Bramignies has nevertheless not broken with Surrealism, which he transcends in his Post-Symbolist style through his painting entitled ‘The Enchanted Tree’, in which he depicts his gallery owner above the myth of Apollo.
Florient De Bramignies was awarded the distinction of PAINTER IN RESIDENCE by the Dante Rossetti gallery for his ‘Vestales du Styx’ and his ‘Autoportrait’.
Florient De Bramignies has won numerous awards abroad, including a Medal of Merit.
